“Those who want to save their life will lose it.”
Judas’ felt his eyebrows twitch. Had this Jesus not promised them eternal life?
He tried to calm his face. The other disciples already treated him with suspicion.
“What will it profit them to gain the whole world and forfeit their life?”
Again, he tried to control his face from registering confusion.
He could hear the comments already.
The sly asides.
The conversations that stopped when he approached.
“The Son of Man will be ashamed.”
There was the word.
The thing he felt among the others.
As though his opinion had no weight. No importance.
As though his own words brought shame.
